Sr. Sleeping Man

This fellow can be found sleeping around Kansas City.  He sleeps and gets woken and chased out of this or that location after a period of time.  I like this city in part because of situations like these.  People know how to exercise liberty.

more more shots from the weekend

I am working on a short video of our hike for the site soon.  Until then, here's the recap.
Sarah, Pela and I set out to find the Swope Park boulders of Kansas City.  We had been there before, and since the weather was fair, we jumped through the weather window.

Now, hikes as the Kolstos usually involve a lot of wandering, wondering and supposing.  For instance, suppose there are boulders over there, we could wander to the next ridge, and maybe find the trail we halfway remember being there.  Usually it's not there, and we press on.  We have done it enough now to know to roll with it.  Prepare as much as we can for daylight, weather and terrain.  As long as we aren't likely to die that day, we can take it in stride.
And taking out of the equation the much needed fitness of bouldering, we could just enjoy being outside.  And we did enjoy it.  Pela liked it too.  We eventually found the boulders on the trail out to the road.  We missed it by about 500 ft.

Now we know.  Instead of climbing, we experienced: seeing a deer, deer poop,  5 lbs of mud collecting on our boots, and being outside in a state we are new to.  No complaints from us.  we had a good time.

That's it.  Stay tuned.

Some Joy From John Patitucci

oats

just missed the temple

I was cooking some delicious burgers last night. Minced garlic, sea salt and me with a broiler equal smoke. If you even think too much in this house the smoke alarms go off (that rarely happens). However, last night, the smoke alarm went off while Pela was asleep upstairs. In efforts to prolong Pela's nap, Sarah ran below the beeping alarm and began fanning it with a pillow.

I ran out of space for some blocks of wood I have been working with, so I started lining windows and doorways with them. Some are large, some are small. One of the larger blocks was sent tumbling by a waving pillow. The block careened downward for about 2 feet until striking the side of Sarah's head with its corner.

Sarah's fine now, it just hurts to chew.

Thanks Papa & Grandma K

Pela got outfitted with some new winter hats to accommodate her growing head and cheeks.
I like this little flapper number.

Happy New Year

Greetings from above a hot cup of some fine Kenyan coffee.  I know I am going to find the sweetness of canned peaches or apricots as soon as it cools a bit.  I can already smell it.
I am at work doing some inventory work for year end.  It's nice to have no vibe or drama bouncing around the office and my head.  I am quite productive working alone.  I would like to do that more often.
If any of you feel prone to new year resolutions, I hope you find the strength to stick to them and through them.  I am excited about this year.  Life in KC with Sarah and Pela and is a life that's flying by.  I am grabbing on and letting go with all that I am and am not.  The clock ticks with every breath we take.  I pray you all progress this year, and push through anything that is holding you back for the wrong reasons.
That's it.  xogrk
