squeeesh~

I woke up today on the couch at 7pm covered in sweat and coffee. Body worn out and bewildered. 18000lbs of coffee bagged in 2 lb bags in 6-7 days. That's a lot of coffee. How long does one do that before saying, 'wait. I am literally a pack mule.' I think it takes 2 days.
Other random observations:
1. fake bird calls over loud speakers get to you after a time. Not unlike the dissonant hum of a computer or printer. I don't know how it gets to you yet, but... uh, it does.
2. watching the space shuttle take off is pretty amazing. It takes 8.5 minutes to reach orbit, traveling at over 3500 mph.
3. Dreams of a tall demon following glowing footsteps to a friend and then administering a collar to the neck, leading them away speaking of real estate in Africa and stealing bank funds are not cute.
4. some times when you get squished, everything comes out. It's a good time to do some evaluating of all that was inside and clean and move out from under the weight. Bonus: now you are thinner and more compact. You can fit in more spaces than you could before.

5. some sleep will do me good. xo

summer flush and crash

It got hot here yesterday. The humidity rose and we stuck to our clothes. Pela ate crab while Sarah and I had some custard. Not much to report otherwise. It's going to be a mad week of work with a large order to fill. Lunacy will prevail. Until then...

my new glasses

to market

The three of us went to the city market today. It was a good time, and kind of a different feel than we frequently get from Kansas City. We had to duck into a cupcake shop whilst the rain did rain and rain it did.

gross

This morning, I overheard Sarah asking Pela is she was going to the bathroom (so to speak) sitting on the floor.  Then I hear, 'ohh you arrrreeee...".  I think nothing of it, for it happens, right?  And then I hear, "ohhh, you fell down".  So, I go in and help the kid sit up.  She's such a sweetheart, I kind of hug her and rub her back-her slightly moistened back-her slightly slimy back.  And, yes, upon inspection of her shirt, it was in fact changing color before my eyes.  Upon inspection of my hand, it too changed color.

Cute baby with poop all over her... strange conflict of emotions.  I'm sure it won't be the last time.

nestled in the cushions

We have been enjoying finding Pela laying on her stomach after sleeping.  It's funny to find her laboring to get up off her belly.  And not so funny when you just left her for a few more minutes to see if she'd go back to sleep.  heh heh ... heh ..  ehhh...

shorts season

Even when feeling a little rough with the emerging teef and hanging out late last night, Pela can still pull of the latest summer styles. By the way, those latest styles be sailor-cut shirts with turtles, and cut off jeans shorts with a matching fabric turtle belt. If possible, cram your pudgy feet into sandals that are meant for someone with less abundant health and physical presence. Then remove them and massage the blood back into your feet. Oh, and wear a giant sun hat.

We walked down to a literary festival that was going on a few blocks away, and then walked a few more miles for some grub and to soak in this beautiful day in KC.

stages of sleep

the pea

Pela is cutting some teeth lately. All four in the front are coming through, so she is doing some freaking out. Rightly so, it can't be too comfortable. She's hanging as well as a baby can, I reckon.

so it begins

I finally found what I have been searching for:a big, dirty box of letterpress type. It's a beautiful thing. Work to follow... Oh, and let me know if any of you have a Kelsey 8x10, 5x8 or any other size letterpress laying around.

pela's first wedding outfit

Our friends James and Rosie got married last night. Pela enjoyed the ceremony from a bench with dad. They were drooling and watching the trees blow in the wind. It was a lovely evening, and we enjoyed the company of all.

pretty girl

We don't put her in dresses too often, due to practicality, but when we do, man is she somethin'.

"heyy every body"

a beautiful day

pela enjoyed some of the fun accouterments that come with grandma and grandpa's house. She enjoyed the swing, but particularly enjoyed the giant mirror in the living room. Many hours have I stared into that thing. And I found out my mother made the leisure suit I used to fill with action poses, ala six million dollar man. Thanks mom...

Loving the Pea

is that red hair coming in or what?

a good time despite

Quick update: Dad is well, vastly improved day by day.  Pela had a great time with all her family, especially meeting her cousins.  Sad to say, but it was like a vacation for Sarah and I.  Even though the conditions were not ideal(though pops is better), we felt like we were vacationing.  What does that say about our current situation?  Midtown Temple: fantastic.  Kansas City: fantastic.  Occupation: confusing.  What are you going to do?  Keep on keepin' on and knock on some doors.  Thanks for all the prayers for my pops.

much love and more photos to follow...

little P's first flight

It went well.  Not much to report, she went up and came down without much trouble.  She was peeking through the seats at passengers behind us.
